92-foot Tricolour becomes centre of attraction as 2.5-km procession celebrates patriotism and 150 years of ‘Vande Mataram’
TFP Bureau,Kanker, August 11, 2026: A grand Tiranga Yatra was organised in Kanker on Monday with immense patriotic fervour, drawing participation from public representatives, ex-servicemen, students, government officials, employees and citizens. Deputy Chief Minister and Kanker district in-charge minister Arun Sao led the 2.5-km procession, which featured a 92-foot-long Tricolour and patriotic slogans.
MLA Asharam Netam and Chhattisgarh Handicrafts Board Chairperson Shalini Rajput were also present during the procession.
The Tiranga Yatra began from the sports ground of Government Narhardev Excellence English Medium School and passed through Ghadi Chowk, Upar-Niche Road, Masjid Chowk and Gandhi Chowk before concluding at the newly constructed Mini Stadium complex.
The procession commenced with the singing of the national song ‘Vande Mataram’. Citizens welcomed the participants at several points along the route by showering flowers, while patriotic slogans echoed through the city. Local residents also encouraged participating students by distributing chocolates and toffees.
92-foot Tricolour steals the show
A 92-foot-long and five-foot-wide Tricolour carried by students emerged as the major attraction of the Yatra. The national flag remained unfurled as the procession passed through the city’s major roads and intersections.
Students of St. Michael English School also participated in a march-past, with the school band performing patriotic tunes during the procession.
The district-level event was organised in accordance with directions issued by the Union Ministry of Culture and the Chhattisgarh Culture Department to commemorate 150 years of ‘Vande Mataram’.
The Tiranga Yatra was also part of the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign being observed from August 9 to 17. The campaign seeks to encourage citizens to hoist the national flag at their homes and participate in activities centred on patriotism and respect for the Tricolour.
Several public representatives and officials attended the event, including Kanker Municipal Council President Arun Kaushik, Zila Panchayat President Kiran Nareti, Collector Nileshkumar Mahadev Kshirsagar, Superintendent of Police Nikhil Rakhecha, Zila Panchayat Vice-President Tara Thakur, Municipal Council Vice-President Uttam Yadav, former MLA Sumitra Markole, Zila Panchayat CEO Haresh Mandavi and District Education Officer Ramesh Nishad, besides other local representatives and citizens.
