Centre Praises Chhattisgarh’s Implementation of PMAY-Urban 2.0

Urban Administration Secretary Sonmoni Borah seeks wider rollout of AMRUT Mission, additional funding and Centre’s support for urban development projects

TFP Bureau, Raipur, August 21, 2026: The implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) 2.0 in Chhattisgarh has received appreciation from the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, with the Centre expressing satisfaction over the progress of the flagship housing programme in the state.

Shri Sonmoni Borah, Secretary of the Chhattisgarh Urban Administration and Development Department, met Shri Satyendra Singh, Secretary, Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, at Sankalp Bhawan in New Delhi on Thursday and briefed him on the implementation of various centrally sponsored urban development schemes in the state. Shri Sumeet Agrawal, Chief Executive Officer of the State Urban Development Agency (SUDA), was also present.

Centre appreciates progress under PMAY-Urban 2.0

During the meeting, Shri Borah apprised the Union Secretary of the progress made under PMAY-Urban 2.0. After reviewing the implementation status, Shri Satyendra Singh expressed satisfaction and appreciated the state’s efforts.

Shri Borah also presented the action plan prepared by the state government to complete the remaining works under PMAY-Urban 1.0 within the extended deadline. The state has assured that pending works will be expedited to ensure that eligible beneficiaries receive the intended benefits.

₹1,500 crore provision under Urban Challenge Fund

The Principal Secretary also discussed the Urban Challenge Fund and informed the Union Ministry that a provision has been made to allocate ₹1,500 crore to Chhattisgarh from the Centre’s total allocation of ₹6,000 crore under the fund.

Several projects have been identified for development under the initiative. These include redevelopment of Ganj Mandi, a tertiary sewage treatment plant, redevelopment of the new market and the old municipal building in Raipur. A waste-to-energy plant based on a hybrid model has also been proposed for the Bhilai-Durg cluster.

The state is preparing an action plan for financial assistance and capacity building through HUDCO and intends to submit its proposal to the Centre within the stipulated timeframe.

₹100 crore released under AMRUT 2.0

Shri Borah also reviewed the progress of Mission AMRUT 2.0 with the Union Secretary. He presented a phased action plan for completing the ongoing projects over the next one-and-a-half years.

He informed the Centre that the ₹100 crore released to Chhattisgarh for the financial year 2026-27 had been fully utilised and requested the release of the next instalment. Following the request, the Government of India released another ₹100 crore to the state.

Shri Borah further requested the Union Ministry to facilitate the implementation of AMRUT Mission in urban local bodies where action plans are yet to be approved and sought additional financial assistance for the programme.

Focus on time-bound completion of Swachh Bharat Mission projects

The meeting also reviewed the component-wise progress of Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) 2.0 in Chhattisgarh. Shri Borah stressed the need for a special action plan to ensure completion of all ongoing projects within the mission’s stipulated timeframe.

He also highlighted practical challenges faced by the state’s urban local bodies, particularly those arising from their relatively small size and low population density. Shri Satyendra Singh assured the state government of all possible cooperation from the Centre in addressing these issues.

The meeting is expected to strengthen coordination between the Centre and Chhattisgarh in implementing key urban development programmes, with emphasis on housing, water supply, sanitation, infrastructure and sustainable urban development.
