Chhattisgarh had pledged over 18 lakh houses in its first Cabinet meeting; more than 4 lakh units currently under construction
TFP Bureau, Raipur, August 23, 2026: More than 11 lakh houses have been completed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) since the formation of the present government in Chhattisgarh, Deputy Chief Minister and Panchayati Raj and Rural Development Minister Vijay Sharma said on Sunday.
Addressing a press conference, Sharma said the state government is committed to fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s objective of providing permanent houses to poor and needy families and has accelerated construction by ensuring the availability of funds for both pending and newly sanctioned houses.
Commitment to Build Over 18 Lakh Houses
Sharma said the first Cabinet meeting of the present government had resolved to sanction and construct more than 18 lakh PMAY houses for eligible families in the state.
He said housing construction has been accorded priority, with funds being made available to complete houses sanctioned during both previous and current financial years.
Over 5.92 Lakh Houses Completed in a Single Financial Year
The Deputy Chief Minister said more than 5.92 lakh PMAY houses were completed in Chhattisgarh during the last financial year, which he described as the highest such achievement in the country.
He said the government is continuously monitoring construction to ensure that eligible beneficiaries receive their houses within the stipulated timeframe.
20.40 Lakh Sanctioned Houses Completed
According to Sharma, all houses found eligible under the 2011 and 2018 eligibility lists have been sanctioned in the state.
Of the total sanctioned houses, around 20.40 lakh units have been completed, while construction of approximately 4 lakh houses is currently underway.
He said the government’s objective extends beyond merely sanctioning houses and is focused on ensuring that eligible families actually receive permanent homes at the earliest.
Pending Houses From Earlier Years Also Completed
Sharma clarified that the more than 11 lakh houses completed during the tenure of the present government include units sanctioned during previous financial years.
Several houses sanctioned earlier had remained incomplete for various reasons. The government subsequently provided the required funds and prioritised these long-pending projects for completion.
As a result, more than 11 lakh houses, covering projects sanctioned during both earlier and the current financial years, have been completed over the past two-and-a-half years.
Chief Minister’s Housing Scheme and PM Janman Also Included
The achievement also includes houses sanctioned under various state and central schemes.
Of around 48,000 houses sanctioned under the Chief Minister’s Housing Scheme, approximately 20,000 have been completed. In addition, around 23,000 houses under the Pradhan Mantri Janman Yojana have been included in the overall housing effort.
Special housing projects are also contributing to the government’s objective of providing permanent homes to poor, needy and marginalised families.
Around 4 Lakh Houses Under Construction
Sharma said approximately 4 lakh houses are currently under construction across the state and efforts are being made to complete them as quickly as possible.
He said providing a permanent roof to every eligible poor family remains one of the government’s top priorities. Along with completing pending projects, the state is ensuring that construction of newly sanctioned houses progresses without interruption.
The Deputy Chief Minister said the government would continue to prioritise housing projects from both previous and current financial years so that no eligible poor family is deprived of the benefit of permanent housing.
