Canal renovation and lining works across nine projects expected to improve irrigation coverage and water availability
TFP Bureau, Raipur, September 22, 2026: The Chhattisgarh government has sanctioned ₹40.85 crore for a series of irrigation and water management projects in Durg district, including renovation of reservoirs, canal lining and construction of channels for filling ponds.
According to the Water Resources Department, ₹40.85 crore has been sanctioned for the projects, which are expected to improve irrigation facilities and strengthen the existing water infrastructure in the district.
The Surpa Diversion Scheme will receive ₹2.24 crore for renovation and remodelling and lining of its canal system. The work is expected to provide irrigation to 121 hectares.
Similarly, ₹4.97 crore has been sanctioned for renovation and canal lining of the Mohandi Reservoir, covering 100 hectares. The Tirga Reservoir will receive ₹4.71 crore for renovation and canal lining, with the works expected to benefit 107 hectares.
An allocation of ₹4.71 crore has been made for renovation and canal lining of the Ganiyari Reservoir, which will provide irrigation to 254 hectares. The Risali Umarpoti Reservoir will receive ₹4.98 crore for similar works, benefiting 162 hectares.
The government has also sanctioned ₹4.94 crore for the construction of channels to supply water to ponds for domestic and general-use purposes, or nistari, within the municipal area of Durg district.
Another ₹4.96 crore has been sanctioned for renovation and new construction works at the Shivnath Mandal Office in Durg.
For the Kapasda Reservoir, ₹4.57 crore has been sanctioned for renovation and canal lining. The project is expected to provide irrigation to 90 hectares after completion.
The Nandauri Reservoir will receive ₹4.78 crore for renovation and canal lining, with the completed works expected to provide irrigation facilities to 49 hectares.
The projects are aimed at strengthening existing irrigation infrastructure, improving the efficiency of water distribution and expanding the availability of water for agricultural and local requirements in Durg district.
