Governor and Chief Minister Attend Convocation of Pandit Sundarlal Sharma University
TFP Bureau, Raipur; July 6, 2024: Governor Shri Biswabhusan Harichandan and Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai attended the 6th convocation ceremony of Pandit Sundarlal Sharma (Open) University (PSSOU) in Bilaspur, where students from various academic sessions were awarded degrees and gold medals for their exceptional achievements.
Addressing the ceremony, Governor Shri Harichandan congratulated the students and praised their families for their support and guidance. He highlighted the students’ achievements as a testament to their hard work, dedication, and academic excellence. He also lauded Pandit Sundarlal Sharma’s contributions to social progress in Chhattisgarh and the university’s role in realizing his vision. The Governor emphasized the university’s A+ grade from NAAC and its efforts in providing educational opportunities to backward communities and those affected by COVID-19.
Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai congratulated the graduates and acknowledged the continuous growth of Chhattisgarh’s only open university. He praised PSSOU’s role in offering educational opportunities to remote learners and working professionals. Shri Sai emphasized the core purpose of education as mutual support, aligning with “Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah,” and noted that implementing the National Education Policy would benefit students’ overall development.
The Chief Minister announced that PSSOU is now listed among 235 universities eligible to offer joint or dual degrees and will initiate programs with foreign universities. He commended the university’s initiative to start courses in the Chhattisgarhi language and urged people to join the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign by planting a sapling in honor of their mothers.
Deputy Chief Minister Shri Arun Sao also addressed the ceremony, praising the university’s dedication to education and its introduction of spiritual courses. He highlighted the National Education Policy’s impact on the curriculum, emphasizing its focus on competency and quality.
Union Minister of State Shri Tokhan Sahu underscored the importance of education and values, noting their role in shaping exemplary citizens. He emphasized that an educated individual contributes meaningfully to societal and national development.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Shri Banshgopal Singh congratulated the awardees and reiterated the university’s commitment to spreading higher education across Chhattisgarh through over 105 study centers.
The ceremony was attended by MLAs Shri Amar Agarwal, Shri Dharmajit Singh, Shri Dharamlal Kaushik, Shri Sushant Shukla, Shri Atal Srivastava, and Shri Dilip Lahariya, along with Bilaspur Zila Panchayat President Shri Arun Singh Chauhan, university personnel, senior district administration officials, and a large number of students.
