Siddharth Shambhu named co-in-charge for Chhattisgarh as party announces new organisational responsibilities
TFP Bureau, Raipur, September 23, 2026: The Bharatiya Janata Party has appointed former Union Minister and national general secretary Smriti Irani as the party’s in-charge for Chhattisgarh and Haryana as part of a fresh organisational restructuring.
National secretary Siddharth Shambhu has been appointed co-in-charge for Chhattisgarh. The appointments were announced by BJP national president Nitin Nabin on Wednesday as the party assigned new in-charges and co-in-charges for 28 States and eight Union Territories.
The changes cover the BJP’s organisational machinery across the country, with several senior leaders being given responsibility for more than one State and new teams of co-in-charges being constituted in several States.
In Chhattisgarh, Ms Irani will take over the organisational responsibility from Mr Nabin, who had earlier been the party’s State in-charge. Mr Shambhu will assist her as co-in-charge.
The BJP’s new organisational list also includes several changes in other States. Vinod Tawde has been appointed in-charge of Uttar Pradesh, with Jagdish Patel, Medha Kulkarni, Pradeep Sharma and Anant Ojha as co-in-charges. Tarun Chugh has been assigned Gujarat, while Satish Poonia has been given responsibility for Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab.
Sunil Bansal has been appointed in-charge of West Bengal and Telangana, while Ram Madhav will oversee Tamil Nadu and Uttarakhand. Harish Dwivedi has been appointed in-charge of Bihar, with Sangeeta Yadav and Rohan Gupta as co-in-charges.
In Delhi, Vinay Sahasrabuddhe has been appointed in-charge, with Jamyang Tsering Namgyal and Darshana Jardosh as co-in-charges. Maharashtra will be handled by Baijayant Jay Panda, assisted by Amit Malviya, Sadanand Shet Tanawade and Kamaljeet Sehrawat.
The appointments form part of the organisational structure being put in place under Mr Nabin’s leadership. The party has assigned responsibilities across all 28 States and eight Union Territories.
For Chhattisgarh, the appointment of Ms Irani and Mr Shambhu places the State under the direct organisational supervision of the BJP’s newly constituted central team. The party is currently in government in the State, led by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai.
