TFP Bureau, Raipur, October 3,2026: The first girls’ toilet constructed under the ‘Meri Beti–Mera Abhiman’ campaign was inaugurated at Dhuma Gram Panchayat in Kurud development block of Dhamtari district on Gandhi Jayanti on Friday.
The facility has been constructed under the Viksit Bharat–Rozgar aur Aajivika Guarantee Mission (Rural), or VB-G Ram Ji scheme, as part of the state government’s initiative to provide safe and hygienic toilet facilities to girls in rural government schools.
The inauguration was attended by villagers, public representatives and schoolchildren. Girls participating in the programme held placards carrying messages associated with cleanliness, safety and respect for daughters.
Target of 6,671 schools
The ‘Meri Beti–Mera Abhiman’ campaign was launched by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on August 6 and is being implemented from August 15, 2026, to January 26, 2027.
Under the campaign, the government has set a target of constructing girls’ toilets in 6,671 rural government schools across Chhattisgarh at an estimated cost of ₹286.85 crore. The initiative seeks to provide girls with access to safe sanitation facilities and promote hygiene, health and dignity.
The government has set January 26, 2027, as the target for ensuring the availability of girls’ toilet facilities in every school covered under the initiative.
Construction monitored at Dhuma
The toilet at Dhuma was also inspected during its construction by Taran Prakash Sinha, Commissioner of Viksit Bharat–G Ram Ji and Director of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin).
During his visit to the Kurud development block, Sinha reviewed the progress of construction at the Dhuma Gram Panchayat site and also enquired about wage payments to workers engaged in the project. He directed officials to ensure timely action on the issues raised.
The inauguration of the facility on Gandhi Jayanti marks the implementation of the campaign at the school level, with the state government seeking to expand similar facilities to rural schools across the state by January 2027.
