Chhattisgarh achieves 100% Kharif sowing target

Sowing completed across 48.62 lakh hectares; 13.40 lakh metric tonnes of fertiliser and 4.62 lakh quintals of certified seeds distributed

TFP Bureau, Raipur, October 6, 2026: Chhattisgarh has achieved 100 per cent of its Kharif sowing target, with crops sown across 48.62 lakh hectares as of October 6 against the season’s target of 48.69 lakh hectares, according to the Agriculture Department.

The sowing area covers major Kharif crops including paddy, maize, kodo, kutki, pigeon pea, green gram, groundnut and niger.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has directed officials to ensure timely availability of fertilisers and certified seeds to farmers and maintain adequate stocks at cooperative societies. The department has also been instructed to monitor the distribution system and take action in cases of negligence.

Agriculture Development and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ramvichar Netam is overseeing the implementation of these measures, officials said.

13.40 lakh tonnes of fertiliser distributed

Against a Kharif-season fertiliser distribution target of 15.55 lakh metric tonnes, a total of 18.02 lakh metric tonnes has been stocked through cooperative and private channels. Of this, 13.40 lakh metric tonnes has been distributed to farmers so far.

In the case of certified seeds, the Chhattisgarh Seed Corporation had set a distribution target of 4.95 lakh quintals. Against this, 4.80 lakh quintals have been stocked and 4.62 lakh quintals have been distributed to farmers.

Rainfall above 10-year average

The State has recorded an average rainfall of 1,155.2 mm as of the morning of October 6. This is below the State’s average annual rainfall of 1,246.3 mm but 15.3 mm above the 10-year average rainfall for the corresponding period, which stands at 1,139.9 mm.

₹8,178.54 crore in short-term farm loans

The Agriculture Department said ₹8,178.54 crore in interest-free short-term agricultural loans had been disbursed through Kisan Credit Cards for the current Kharif season as of October 5.

The amount is higher than the ₹6,938.10 crore disbursed during the corresponding period last year. The State government has set a target of providing ₹8,800 crore in short-term agricultural loans to farmers during the current year.

The government has said the measures are aimed at ensuring timely access to farm inputs and credit while supporting agricultural operations during the Kharif season.
