TFP Bureau, New Delhi, June 7, 2025: As the 11th BRICS Parliamentary Forum concluded in Brasília, the Hon’ble Speaker of the Lok Sabha issued a statement expressing gratitude to the Brazilian Parliament, Government, and people for hosting the event. The summit witnessed constructive dialogue on key global issues including counter-terrorism, the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), and strengthening economic cooperation among BRICS nations.
The Forum concluded with the adoption of a final declaration, which underscored the collective commitment of BRICS nations—Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—to combat terrorism. The declaration strongly condemned the terrorist attack that took place on 22 April in Pahalgam, Kashmir, India. Emphasizing a unified global stand, the Speaker reiterated India’s call for a zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism, echoing the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s consistent position on the issue.
Consensus on Responsible AI and Economic Inclusion
Another major focus of the summit was the use of Artificial Intelligence. The participating nations agreed that while AI holds transformative potential, it must be deployed with transparency, accountability, and ethical safeguards. The Speaker emphasized the importance of ensuring that AI contributes to inclusive growth and does not widen existing disparities.
Economic inclusion and intra-BRICS trade were also high on the agenda. The forum explored ways to deepen economic ties and boost cooperation across emerging sectors, with a shared commitment to promoting sustainable development.
India to Host Next BRICS Summit
Looking ahead, India will host the next BRICS Parliamentary Forum. The Speaker assured that India, in close collaboration with fellow BRICS members, will chart a comprehensive agenda that includes pressing issues such as trade, technology, social development, and international dialogue.
“I extend my best wishes to the Speakers and Presidents of the Parliaments of all BRICS nations,” the Speaker said, adding that shared experiences, best practices, and enhanced parliamentary exchanges can bring about real transformation in the lives of citizens across member countries.
India’s leadership role in the next summit will focus on bridging global divides, fostering cooperation, and ensuring that BRICS continues to be a significant platform for collective progress.
