34 New Nalanda Complexes to Empower Chhattisgarh’s Youth

TFP Bureau, Raipur, August 9, 2025:The Chhattisgarh government is set to construct 34 new Nalanda Complexes across the state to boost higher education and competitive exam preparation facilities for youth. These centres will not be limited to major cities like Raipur, Bilaspur, Durg, Bhilai, and Raigarh but will also reach deep into remote forest districts, including Sukma, Dantewada, Narayanpur, Surajpur, Baikunthpur, Chirmiri, Kunkuri, Jashpur, Balrampur, and Pendra.

In the last two years, the Urban Administration and Development Department has sanctioned ₹237.57 crore for 33 Nalanda complexes, with ₹125.88 crore allocated this financial year for 18 complexes in 17 urban bodies. In 2024–25, ₹111.70 crore was sanctioned for 15 complexes, 11 of which have completed the tendering process and are ready for construction.

Raigarh is witnessing the creation of the state’s largest Nalanda Complex – a 700-seater central library – being built under CSR funding through a ₹42.56 crore agreement between Raigarh Municipal Corporation and NTPC.

Deputy Chief Minister and Urban Administration Minister Arun Sao recently approved the release of ₹19.14 crore as the first instalment for complexes in 11 urban bodies, including Durg, Rajnandgaon, Ambikapur, and Jashpur.

Under the project, 10 cities will receive 500-seater libraries, while 22 others will get 250-seater facilities. These modern reading zones will house high-quality books for higher education and competitive exams, and provide both online and offline study options.

Raipur already operates three major central libraries, including the 1,000-seater Nalanda Complex-cum-Oxy Reading Zone and the 800-seater Takshashila Central Library. Two more libraries – a 1,000-seater and a 500-seater – are in the pipeline with a combined sanction of over ₹34 crore.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said these complexes will open the doors of opportunity to youth from all corners of the state. “Nalanda complexes are not just buildings; they are the foundation of a bright future for our youth,” he said.

Deputy CM Sao added that the government is committed to equipping young people with every possible resource to achieve their goals, stating, “These facilities will provide a conducive environment and the best study material for focused preparation and career success.”
