Semiconductors Set to Power Chhattisgarh’s Economic Growth

By G.S. Kesharwani, Raipur, June 25, 2025: Chhattisgarh is rapidly establishing itself as a significant hub in India’s push towards self-reliance and technological advancement with the foundation stone laid for its first semiconductor manufacturing unit in Nava Raipur Atal Nagar. The Rs 1100 crore project by Polymatech Electronics Private Limited marks a major milestone in the state’s industrial development and is expected to fuel the local economy with high-tech investment and employment opportunities.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, Chhattisgarh’s new industrial policy and focus on ease of doing business have created an investor-friendly environment. Polymatech’s commitment to invest in the state was formalized at the recent Investment Summit in Delhi, with the groundbreaking ceremony completed within just three months — a testament to the efficiency of the state’s governance.

The semiconductor plant will enable large-scale chip production, offering skilled employment to the state’s youth, especially those with technical education. Beyond manufacturing, the government is crafting a comprehensive semiconductor ecosystem encompassing chip design, production, and packaging. Additionally, initiatives to promote emerging sectors such as Artificial Intelligence and data centers are underway, further expanding technical education and job creation in the region.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of manufacturing at least one chip in every computer globally underpins India’s Semiconductor Mission, targeting a 10 percent share in the global semiconductor market by 2030. Semiconductors act as the ‘brain’ of modern electronic devices, powering everything from smartphones and laptops to automobiles, defense systems, drones, and AI-enabled gadgets.

The state’s industrial policy has already attracted investment proposals totaling Rs 5.5 lakh crore from various investor summits held in metropolitan cities. Along with semiconductors, Chhattisgarh is aggressively promoting the AI and IT sectors, highlighted by the construction of the country’s first AI data center park in Nava Raipur. This development is set to position Chhattisgarh as a major technology hub on the national map, driving sustainable economic growth for years to come.
