Adani Group Launches Skill Training Program for Heavy Vehicle Operation in Mines

TFP Bureau, Bilaspur, July 1, 2025: Adani Skills and Education, the flagship skill development arm of the Adani Group, has initiated a new training program to equip youth with the expertise to operate heavy machinery and technical vehicles in mining sectors. In collaboration with the Institute of Driving and Traffic Research (IDTR), Chhattisgarh, the program kicked off on Monday at the training center in Nava Raipur with the launch of a fresh batch of 25 trainees.

Under this social initiative, about 103 youth from Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Odisha will receive free training designed to enhance their employability in mining operations. The training covers 240 hours of Heavy Motor Vehicle (HMV) driving over 40 days and 200 hours of Heavy Earth Moving Machinery (HEMM) operation over 35 days, including boarding and lodging, fully funded by the Adani Group.

The current batch comprises 30 participants from GP 2 and 3 mines in Tamnar tehsil (Raigarh district), 13 from PEKB and PCB mines in Udaipur tehsil (Surguja district), 50 from Sulyari tehsil (Singrauli district, Madhya Pradesh), and 10 from Talabira, Odisha.

Chhattisgarh, contributing 20 percent of India’s coal production, has a significant demand for skilled heavy vehicle operators, but limited training infrastructure. Adani’s initiative addresses this gap by preparing rural youth for high-demand technical roles in the transport and mining sectors, boosting both skill levels and employment prospects.

Adani Natural Resources COO (Coal Mining), Shri Manoj Kumar Shahi, attended the inauguration online, stressing the Group’s commitment to creating jobs and self-employment opportunities in project-affected areas. “Mining industries require skilled operators for expensive machinery. This program offers vital skill development and opens pathways to better employment for rural youth,” he said.

Trainees Jamuna Prasad Patel and Girja Prasad Uikey from the Sarguja cluster expressed gratitude, highlighting how heavy vehicle driving skills will improve their earnings and career advancement compared to driving light vehicles.

Through this collaboration, Adani Skills & Education aims to drive inclusive growth and social transformation by empowering youth—especially from tribal and backward regions—with industry-relevant skills, helping bridge the gap in education and employment opportunities.
