TFP Bureau, Raipur, August 12, 2025: In a major relief for farmers during the peak sowing period, the Union Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers has approved an additional allocation of 50,000 tonnes each of urea and DAP fertilizers for Chhattisgarh. The decision comes after a delegation of the state’s MPs, led by Agriculture Minister Ramvichar Netam, met Union Fertilizer Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda in New Delhi and pressed for urgent supplies to meet the Kharif season demand.
During the meeting, Agriculture Minister Netam, along with Lok Sabha MPs Santosh Pandey, Vijay Baghel, Kamlesh Jangde, Roopkumari Chaudhary, Rajya Sabha MP Devendra Bahadur Singh, and senior state officials, presented a detailed report on the state’s fertilizer situation. They highlighted that Chhattisgarh’s farmers, primarily engaged in paddy cultivation, require higher quantities of phosphatic fertilizers in August–September for healthy crop growth and higher yields.
As per the existing supply plan for the Kharif season, Chhattisgarh was to receive 5.99 lakh metric tonnes of urea and 2.68 lakh metric tonnes of DAP till July. However, the state has so far received only 4.63 lakh metric tonnes of urea and 1.61 lakh metric tonnes of DAP. For August, the Centre had approved 57,600 metric tonnes of urea and 36,850 metric tonnes of DAP, but state officials stressed that this would fall short of the actual requirement. The request for an additional 1 lakh tonnes was made to prevent any shortage during the critical sowing phase.
Agriculture department data shows that by August 11, 6.72 lakh metric tonnes of urea, 2.14 lakh metric tonnes of DAP, and 80,000 metric tonnes of MOP have already been stored in the state. To offset the shortfall in DAP, alternative fertilizers are also being stocked, with 2.37 lakh metric tonnes of NPK (against a target of 1.80 lakh metric tonnes) and 2.95 lakh metric tonnes of SSP (against a target of 2 lakh metric tonnes) already available.
Officials assured that with the fresh allocation from the Centre, the state will be able to ensure uninterrupted supply to farmers, supporting timely sowing and improved agricultural productivity in the ongoing Kharif season.
