150 Years of “Vande Mataram”: Chhattisgarh to Launch Year-long Celebration of Patriotism and Public Participation

TFP Bureau, Raipur, November 6, 2025: Chhattisgarh is set to join the nation in launching a year-long celebration marking the 150th anniversary of “Vande Mataram,” one of India’s most cherished national songs and an enduring symbol of patriotism. Guided by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, the commemorative campaign will unfold across the country through cultural programmes, public participation initiatives, and mass singing events designed to rekindle the spirit of national unity.

In Chhattisgarh, the celebrations will be organized on a large scale in four phases and will span villages, districts, educational institutions, cultural bodies, and government establishments. The state government has planned extensive public outreach to ensure that the message of “Vande Mataram” resonates across communities and age groups.

First Phase Begins on November 7
The national celebrations will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 7, 2025. The live broadcast of the event will be telecast from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Doordarshan, after which citizens across India will join in a collective rendition of “Vande Mataram.” The official portal, vandemataram150.in, has made the lyrics and tune available for public use to facilitate widespread participation.

Four Phases of Year-long Observance
The campaign will run in four major phases:

• November 7–14, 2025
• January 19–26, 2026
• August 7–15, 2026 (aligned with the Har Ghar Tiranga initiative)
• November 1–7, 2026

Throughout the year, mass singing events and patriotic activities will take place at district headquarters, block offices, village panchayats, schools, colleges, universities, government buildings, and through social organizations. Cultural performances, public readings, and special community gatherings will form part of the celebrations.

Ministers and Local Leaders to Lead District Programmes
Cabinet ministers, Members of Parliament, MLAs, and other public representatives will participate in district-level events. Their presence is intended to strengthen public involvement and transform the initiative into a state-wide movement rooted in collective pride and unity. Community participation by students, artists, women’s groups, youth organizations, and cultural institutions will be encouraged to ensure that the message reaches all sections of society.

Schools and Colleges to Hold Special Activities
Educational institutions across Chhattisgarh will play a central role in the celebrations. Special assemblies, creative competitions, and cultural programmes themed around “Vande Mataram” will be held. Activities will include essay writing, elocution competitions, debates, quizzes, poster making, and musical performances by school bands, NCC cadets, NSS volunteers, and Scout-Guide groups.

The State Police Band will also organize public performances featuring patriotic melodies and “Vande Mataram,” turning public spaces into vibrant zones of national celebration.

“Vande Mataram” Audio-Video Booths to Capture People’s Voices
In a unique initiative, audio-video booths dedicated to “Vande Mataram” will be set up across the state. These booths will allow citizens to record their own renditions of the anthem and upload them to the official portal. The original song’s lyrics and tune will also be available for reference, enabling widespread, heartfelt participation from people of all ages.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said the campaign represents far more than an anniversary celebration. He described it as a profound symbol of national unity, pride, and cultural continuity.

He noted that “Vande Mataram,” composed 150 years ago, continues to inspire generations with its message of devotion to the motherland. The Chief Minister expressed confidence that the year-long celebration would instill renewed patriotism and national consciousness among the youth of Chhattisgarh.

Calling the anthem the “voice of India’s soul,” he added that its resonance would help connect young citizens with India’s cultural roots and strengthen their commitment to the nation’s progress.
