TFP Bureau, Raipur, November 20, 2025: The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Chhattisgarh, has issued a strong advisory urging citizens to stay alert against rising instances of cyber fraud linked to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the Electoral Roll. The department has warned that cybercriminals are attempting to deceive voters by misusing the pretext of SIR form submission and seeking one-time passwords (OTP) from unsuspecting citizens.
According to the CEO, providing a mobile number during the SIR process is completely safe, but vigilance is essential as fraudsters may contact people posing as election officials and demand OTPs. The office has clarified that no OTP is required at any stage of filling the SIR form through a Booth Level Officer (BLO), and no officer, employee, or BLO is authorised to ask citizens for an OTP.
Emphasising the importance of public awareness, the advisory lists clear instructions to help citizens identify and respond to fraudulent attempts. Voters are advised to immediately decline calls where a caller requests an OTP received on the mobile number used for SIR registration. Instead, citizens should directly contact their respective BLOs or visit the concerned office for clarification.
The CEO further stated that any attempt to pressure or threaten citizens into sharing an OTP must be promptly reported to the nearest police station. Police departments in several states have already highlighted this emerging type of online scam and reiterated that OTPs must never be shared with unknown callers under any circumstances.
The office has urged voters to remain alert and safeguard their personal information during the electoral roll revision exercise, stressing that “your vigilance is your safety.”
