Digital Chhattisgarh Emerges as a Lifeline for Citizens Far From Home

TFP Bureau, Raipur, November 29, 2025: Chhattisgarh’s expanding digital governance framework has once again demonstrated its transformative impact on citizens’ lives, proving that government services can now be accessed swiftly and seamlessly from any location. The experience of Smt. Sonam Tripathi, a resident of Bhubaneswar, vividly illustrates how technology-driven governance under “Digital Chhattisgarh” is reducing hardship, saving valuable time and providing crucial support during challenging circumstances.

Smt. Tripathi, who relocated to Bhubaneswar after marriage, faced an unexpected hurdle when her mother’s deteriorating health required immediate banking procedures that demanded a digital copy of her late father’s death certificate. Although the Bilaspur municipal office had earlier issued a physical certificate following her father’s demise, she was unaware that the bank would require a digital version. The situation caused understandable distress during an already emotional period.

Unable to travel to Bilaspur due to caregiving responsibilities, she turned to the internet in search of help. She located the contact details of the state Birth and Death Registration Office and reached out directly from Bhubaneswar. The official she spoke with guided her through the online process, explaining the mandatory documents, verification steps and how to retrieve the certificate digitally. Within a few days, the system generated the document online, enabling her to complete the bank account transfer for her mother without any further delay.

Reflecting on the experience, Smt. Tripathi said that had she been aware earlier, she could have avoided the initial inconvenience. She urged citizens to equip themselves with information about essential digital documents—especially those required for banking, pensions, property transfers and government schemes. Her successful completion of the entire process from Bhubaneswar reaffirmed how access to information, technology and responsive governance can simplify even the most complex tasks.

In recent years, Chhattisgarh has significantly strengthened its digital infrastructure across services such as birth and death registration, certificate issuance, grievance redressal and online applications. Residents across districts—whether in Bilaspur, Raigarh, Durg, Surajpur or Bastar—can now apply for documents, track applications and receive services online with greater transparency, reduced physical visits and faster outcomes.

Her experience, officials said, serves as a compelling example for citizens still unfamiliar with or hesitant about digital processes. It highlights how modern e-governance is designed to eliminate procedural burdens and ensure comfort, speed and clarity in accessing state services.

Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai noted that the state’s digital transformation is delivering tangible benefits in people’s daily lives. He said that even from Bhubaneswar, Smt. Tripathi was able to obtain her father’s digital death certificate from Bilaspur and complete her mother’s work without difficulty, reflecting the transparency and reliability of the system. He reiterated that the goal of Digital Chhattisgarh is to make every essential service accessible “quickly, easily and at one click,” marking a significant milestone in the success of the Digital India mission.
