6,412 Couples to Marry Across Chhattisgarh Under Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana Today

State-level mass marriage ceremony to be held in Raipur in the presence of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai; Malnutrition-Free Chhattisgarh Campaign to be launched alongside the event.

TFP Bureau, Raipur, February 10, 2026:In one of the largest welfare-driven social initiatives of the year, as many as 6,412 couples from across Chhattisgarh will tie the knot on February 10 under the Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana. The state-level mass marriage ceremony will be organised at the Science College Ground in Raipur, where Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai will personally bless the newly married couples.

The marriages will be solemnised in accordance with diverse religious traditions and customary rites, reflecting the cultural plurality of the state. A total of 1,316 couples will participate physically in the state-level ceremony in Raipur, while couples from Balodabazar, Dhamtari, Durg, Mahasamund and Rajnandgaon districts will join the programme virtually. In the remaining districts, similar mass marriage ceremonies will be held at district headquarters under the supervision of concerned in-charge ministers and local public representatives.

The programme will be presided over by Speaker of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly Dr Raman Singh. Deputy Chief Ministers Shri Arun Sao and Shri Vijay Sharma, Union Minister of State Shri Tokhan Sahu, Women and Child Development Minister Smt Laxmi Rajwade, along with members of the Council of Ministers, Members of Parliament, MLAs and senior officials, will be present at the event.

Alongside the mass marriage ceremony, the Chief Minister will formally launch the Malnutrition-Free Chhattisgarh Campaign, a major public health initiative aimed at addressing child malnutrition. In the first phase, the campaign will focus on 40,000 malnourished children in the age group of 6 months to 52 months. The initiative will begin from the Bastar division, covering the districts of Bijapur, Dantewada, Narayanpur and Sukma, and will later be expanded to other regions of the state.

Under the Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana, financial assistance of Rs 35,000 is directly transferred to the bank account of each eligible couple to support their married life, while an additional Rs 15,000 is spent by the government on wedding arrangements, including ceremonial expenses and gift materials. The scheme is designed to ease the financial burden on economically weaker families and ensure dignified marriages for their daughters.

According to official data, marriages across the state will include 6,281 couples married according to Hindu rituals, three according to Muslim rites, 113 as per Christian customs, five following Buddhist traditions, and 10 couples married according to traditional Baiga community practices.

The large-scale event underscores the state government’s commitment to inclusive welfare, social harmony and women-centric policies. By combining social security measures such as mass marriages with health-focused initiatives like the malnutrition eradication campaign, the government aims to promote holistic and people-oriented development across Chhattisgarh.
