Vedanta Group firm showcases women empowerment, education and health projects alongside aluminium manufacturing display; leaders laud community-centric model
TFP Bureau, Korba, February 18, 2026: Reinforcing its commitment to inclusive growth alongside industrial progress, Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO) showcased its community development initiatives at the two-day Pali Mahotsav, drawing wide appreciation from public representatives, officials and local residents.
The company, part of the Vedanta Group, set up a thematic exhibition stall highlighting its social outreach programmes, rural development efforts and sustainable practices. Visitors to the pavilion included Chhattisgarh Industry Minister Lakhan Lal Dewangan, Korba MP Jyotsna Mahant, and other elected representatives, who commended the company’s initiatives and the traditional presentation of its display.
During his visit, Minister Dewangan praised BALCO’s work in promoting women’s self-help groups, education access, healthcare services and livelihood opportunities. He said such corporate participation strengthens grassroots development and complements government welfare programmes. MP Jyotsna Mahant described the festival as a vibrant platform reflecting the region’s cultural pride and enthusiasm, and interacted with women associated with self-help groups supported by BALCO’s Unnati initiative, appreciating its impact on economic empowerment.
The exhibition combined industrial awareness with social outreach, presenting information on aluminium manufacturing processes in an easy-to-understand format alongside displays on education, health, youth development and infrastructure projects. Special attention was given to the company’s Nandghar initiative and its healthcare programmes, illustrating its integrated approach to community welfare.
A major attraction for visitors was the display of traditional art forms such as Gokkra, Lipan, mirror work and murals, along with stalls offering authentic Chhattisgarhi cuisine prepared by women from BALCO-supported self-help groups. Organisers said the initiative not only promoted local art and culinary traditions but also provided rural women with a platform to showcase their skills and achieve financial independence.
Company representatives stated that for over six decades, BALCO has pursued development guided by the principles of excellence, innovation and inclusion. Through its social programmes, the company has worked across nearly 123 surrounding villages, impacting the lives of more than two lakh people by improving access to education, healthcare, livelihoods and infrastructure.
Officials noted that the success of these initiatives reflects strong collaboration between the district administration, local communities and civil society organisations. They emphasised that such partnerships are central to the company’s long-term vision of sustainable development and nation-building, positioning BALCO not only as an industrial enterprise but also as a stakeholder in regional social progress.
