Recruitment process for 700 posts begins in Chhattisgarh government colleges

625 Assistant Professors, 50 Librarians and 25 Sports Officers to be appointed to strengthen higher education infrastructure

TFP Bureau, Raipur, March 13,2025: The Department of Higher Education in Chhattisgarh has initiated a major recruitment drive for 700 posts in government colleges across the state in an effort to strengthen teaching and academic support services. The move has been undertaken under a special initiative of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai with the aim of improving the quality of higher education and addressing the shortage of faculty and academic staff in state-run colleges.

According to officials, the recruitment will include appointments for 625 posts of Assistant Professors, 50 posts of Librarians and 25 posts of Sports Officers. The appointments are expected to significantly improve academic infrastructure and ensure better learning opportunities for students studying in government colleges across the state.

The Department of Higher Education has already completed several preparatory steps for the recruitment process. The reservation roster and subject-wise distribution of vacancies have been finalised in accordance with the existing rules and policies of the state government. A detailed roster break-up has also been prepared to ensure that the recruitment process follows all constitutional provisions related to reservation and category-wise representation.

To initiate the formal recruitment procedure, the department sent a detailed proposal to the Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission on February 24, 2026. The proposal includes information related to the number of posts, subject-wise vacancies, reservation details, eligibility criteria and examination syllabus. Once the Commission completes its administrative and technical formalities, it will issue an official advertisement inviting applications from eligible candidates.

Subject-wise distribution of posts

According to information released by the department, the recruitment will cover a wide range of academic disciplines in order to strengthen teaching capacity in multiple streams of higher education.

A total of 50 posts each have been proposed for Assistant Professors in Hindi, English, Sociology, Political Science, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology. In addition, 25 posts each will be filled in the subjects of Economics, History and Geography.

The recruitment drive also includes 15 posts of Assistant Professor in Computer Applications, reflecting the growing importance of digital education and information technology in higher education. Commerce will have the highest number of vacancies with 75 posts, while 10 posts have been earmarked for Assistant Professors in Law.

Apart from teaching positions, the recruitment process also includes 50 posts of Librarians to strengthen academic resources and library management in colleges. Additionally, 25 posts of Sports Officers will be filled to promote sports activities and physical education among students.

Officials said the inclusion of librarians and sports officers alongside teaching staff reflects the government’s broader approach to improving both academic and extracurricular facilities in colleges.

Improving academic quality

The appointments are expected to address the shortage of permanent faculty members in many government colleges and help improve the overall quality of teaching and learning. With more qualified educators joining institutions, students are likely to receive better academic guidance, improved classroom engagement and enhanced research opportunities.

Officials stated that strengthening human resources in higher education institutions is essential for implementing modern teaching practices and maintaining academic standards in line with national policies.

The department has also forwarded details related to educational qualifications, recruitment rules, category-wise vacancy distribution, examination syllabus and the draft advertisement format to the Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission. These steps are intended to ensure transparency and efficiency in the recruitment process.

Guest faculty arrangement to ensure continuity

Meanwhile, the Department of Higher Education has taken steps to ensure that teaching activities in colleges continue smoothly until the permanent recruitment process is completed. To avoid any disruption in academic sessions, the department has arranged for the appointment of guest faculty against sanctioned posts.

This arrangement covers not only the positions of Assistant Professors and Professors but also those of Librarians and Sports Officers. Through this system, colleges can continue their teaching and administrative activities without interruption while the formal recruitment process is underway.

Officials noted that a large number of guest faculty members currently serving in government colleges possess strong academic qualifications. Many of them hold Ph.D. degrees and have cleared national eligibility examinations such as the National Eligibility Test and State Eligibility Test.

These educators are contributing significantly to the teaching-learning process and are helping colleges maintain academic standards during the transition period.

Alignment with National Education Policy

The recruitment initiative is also seen as part of broader efforts to align the state’s higher education system with the objectives of the National Education Policy 2020. The policy emphasises improving faculty strength, promoting interdisciplinary learning and enhancing the overall quality of higher education institutions.

By filling a large number of teaching and support posts, the state government aims to strengthen institutional capacity, promote academic excellence and ensure that students receive quality education in line with contemporary national and global standards.

Officials said that once the recruitment process is completed, government colleges across Chhattisgarh will have better faculty availability, improved academic resources and stronger institutional frameworks, ultimately benefiting thousands of students pursuing higher education in the state.
