Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai Expresses Gratitude; Campus Spread Over 400 Acres

TFP Bureau, Bhilai; February 20, 2024: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi marked a significant milestone today as he dedicated the permanent campus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhilai to the nation. The inauguration ceremony, conducted virtually from Jammu, also saw the Prime Minister unveiling the newly constructed buildings of IIT Bhilai along with Kendriya Vidyalaya in Kurud and Kawardha. Joining the event virtually, Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai expressed heartfelt gratitude towards the Prime Minister for this pivotal moment.

The sprawling campus of Bhilai’s IIT, covering an expanse of 400 acres, represents a significant leap forward in the region’s educational infrastructure. Speaking from the inauguration program held at Bhilai IIT, Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai hailed the occasion as a proud moment for Chhattisgarh. He thanked Prime Minister Modi for his dedication to advancing education and expressed optimism that the newly established IIT would emerge as a beacon of excellence in higher education.

MP Shri Vijay Baghel echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the transformative impact of the Prime Minister’s initiatives on higher education across the nation. The event, attended by various dignitaries including Chairman of the Board of Governors of Bhilai IIT, Mr. K. Venkataramanan, and Director Prof. Rajeev Prakash, was a testament to the collective efforts towards fostering academic growth.

With over a thousand students currently enrolled across 11 engineering branches, the Bhilai IIT campus represents a hub of learning and innovation. Following the commencement of classes at the Government Engineering College, Raipur in 2016, the transition to the permanent campus in Bhilai signifies a new chapter in the institution’s journey. Construction of the campus, initiated in July 2020, received a boost after Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone in June 2018, underscoring the government’s commitment to bolstering educational infrastructure.

The campus’s architectural homage to Chhattisgarh’s rivers and mountains, with buildings named after prominent landmarks such as Indravati, Shivnath, and Mainpat, serves as a testament to the institution’s deep-rooted connection to the region’s cultural and geographical heritage. As the campus continues to evolve, it stands poised to shape the academic landscape of the region for generations to come.
