The Chhattisgarh Private Universities Regulatory Commission has advised students and parents to carefully verify legal recognition, course approvals, and Ph.D. regulations before taking admission to private universities to avoid fraudulent practices and safeguard academic careers.
TFP Bureau, Raipur, June 25,2026: The Chhattisgarh Private Universities Regulatory Commission has issued a set of important guidelines for students and parents planning to seek admission to private universities in the state, urging them to verify five essential aspects before enrolling in any course or degree programme.
In a circular issued by Commission Secretary Ashok Agrawal, the regulatory body said the advisory aims to protect students from fraudulent admissions and ensure they make informed decisions regarding higher education.
According to the guidelines, prospective students should first confirm that the university has been officially notified by the State Government under the Chhattisgarh Private Universities (Establishment and Operation) Act, 2005.
The Commission also emphasised that a university’s statutes and ordinances must be published in the Chhattisgarh Government Gazette before it can legally admit students. Admissions granted prior to such publication are considered invalid under the applicable rules.
Highlighting another important provision, the Commission clarified that private universities in Chhattisgarh function as unitary institutions and are not permitted to affiliate colleges or institutions outside their own campuses. Academic programmes can only be conducted through the university’s main campus or its authorised departments.
Students have also been advised to ensure that the course or degree they intend to pursue has received approval from the University Grants Commission (UGC) and is specifically included in the university’s Gazette-published ordinances.
For Ph.D. aspirants, the Commission underscored that admissions and research activities must comply with the UGC Regulations, 2022. It advised candidates to verify that research supervision is provided by eligible regular faculty members of the university, noting that conducting research under external supervisors is not permitted under UGC norms.
Appealing to students and parents to exercise caution, Secretary Ashok Agrawal said the guidelines have been issued solely in the public interest to safeguard students’ academic futures. He urged applicants not to rely on promotional claims or misleading advertisements and instead verify all relevant information through the Commission’s official website or its office before securing admission.
