Ram Navami Declared as Dry Day by Chhattisgarh Government

Prohibition on Sale and Service of Liquor

TFP Bureau, Raipur; April 16, 2024: The Chhattisgarh government has issued a notification declaring April 17, 2024, Ram Navami, as a “dry day” throughout the state.

During the designated “Dry Day,” all retail outlets selling country liquor and foreign liquor, including restaurant-bars, hotel-bars, and clubs, located across various districts in the state, will remain closed. This includes establishments falling under categories FL-1 (DDG), FL-1 (DHG-Composite), CS-2 (DHG), CS-2 (DHG-Composite), CS2 (C-Composite), CS2 (C-Composite Compound), FL 1 (B-yard), FL 1 (B-Composite Compound), FL 2, 3, 3 (a, b, g), 4, 4 (a), 5, 5 (a), 6, 7, 8, 9, 9 (a), CS1, CS1-B, and CS1-C. Additionally, retail shops selling Bhang/Bhangghota (a cannabis-based drink) will also remain closed.

During the “dry day,” establishments such as liquor shops, hotels, restaurants, clubs, and any other entity involved in the sale or service of liquor will not be permitted to conduct such activities.

Furthermore, non-proprietary clubs, restaurants, star hotels, and privately operated hotels are also prohibited from selling or serving liquor on the designated “dry day.”

Strict measures will be implemented to prevent personal possession of liquor and storage of liquor in unlicensed premises during this period, with authorities authorized to confiscate any such liquor found.

The government has directed district offices, divisional authorities, and state-level flying squads to take effective steps to curb the transportation and sale of illegal liquor. Special investigation teams have been formed to identify potential locations and vehicles involved in the distribution of illegal liquor, with strict legal action to be taken against offenders. Authorities have been instructed to ensure full compliance with these directives.
