Positive talks held between Medical Education Commissioner and interns; hostels sanctioned for nearly all medical colleges in current financial year
TFP Bureau, Raipur, August 13, 2026: The Medical Education Department on Thursday held a meeting with representatives of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and interns from various government medical colleges to discuss their concerns, including the demand for an increase in internship stipends.
The meeting, chaired by Commissioner of Medical Education Ritesh Agrawal, focused on addressing the issues faced by interns and exploring possible solutions through dialogue.
During the meeting, interns placed their demand for a stipend hike before the department. Officials assured the interns that the government was seriously considering the demand and would take necessary steps in the interest of students.
Hostel construction approved
The meeting also brought relief for medical students with the announcement that hostel construction has been sanctioned for nearly all medical colleges under the current financial year’s budget. The move is expected to help address accommodation-related challenges faced by students.
Appeal to maintain healthcare services
At the conclusion of the meeting, the participants were urged to ensure that public healthcare services remain uninterrupted. Officials stressed that medical services are directly connected with public interest and should not be disrupted under any circumstances.
IMA-MSN Chhattisgarh Convener Shahdil Khusru described the meeting as a positive step towards resolving the concerns of interns. He said both sides had agreed to continue discussions in a constructive and cooperative manner and expressed hope that a satisfactory resolution would be reached soon.
The meeting was attended by interns from Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Medical College, Raipur; Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences, Bilaspur; Government Medical College, Rajnandgaon; Government Medical College, Kanker; and Government Medical College, Ambikapur.
