Road, bridge and building projects receive major push; ₹9,129 crore sanctioned in 2025-26, highest in PWD’s 25-year history
TFP Bureau, Raipur, August 19, 2026: Chhattisgarh’s Public Works Department (PWD) has received administrative approval for 1,572 infrastructure projects worth ₹12,666 crore over the past two and a half years, Deputy Chief Minister and Public Works Minister Arun Sao said on Wednesday.
Addressing a press conference at the Chhattisgarh Samvad Auditorium in Nava Raipur, Sao said the PWD was working to accelerate infrastructure development in the state under the guiding principle of “Building Chhattisgarh through Public Works.”
The approved projects include 1,285 road projects, 247 bridge projects and 42 building construction projects, he said.
Sao described the PWD as the state’s largest construction department and said strengthening roads, bridges and public buildings was essential to supporting Chhattisgarh’s overall economic and social development.
₹9,129 crore approved in 2025-26
According to the minister, the department received administrative approval for projects worth ₹551.42 crore between December 2023 and March 2024. The approvals covered 72 road projects spanning 374 km, six bridges and two buildings.
In 2024-25, the department secured approvals worth ₹2,590.70 crore for 438 projects, including 400 roads covering 1,465 km, 37 bridges and one building.
The financial year 2025-26 proved historic for the PWD, with administrative approvals worth ₹9,129.18 crore, the highest annual sanction in the department’s 25-year history since Chhattisgarh was formed.
The approvals covered 993 projects, including 754 road projects spanning 5,129.60 km, 200 bridges and 39 buildings.
In the current financial year 2026-27, the department has already secured approvals worth ₹608 crore as of August 10, covering 59 roads with a combined length of 608.20 km and two bridges.
Seven divisions, 12 sub-divisions added
Sao said the government had also strengthened the administrative structure of the PWD to improve project implementation and monitoring.
Seven new divisional offices and 12 new sub-divisional offices have been established over the past two and a half years, he said. The move is aimed at improving supervision and expediting the execution of sanctioned infrastructure projects.
Resolving pending cases related to compassionate appointments has also been identified as a priority, the minister added.
WAMIS to bring PWD operations online
The department is also preparing to introduce Work and Accounts Monitoring Integration System (WAMIS) to make its functioning more transparent, efficient and technology-driven.
Under WAMIS, processes ranging from preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) to project approvals and execution will be integrated through an online platform.
Sao said the digital system would reduce procedural delays, improve monitoring and facilitate faster implementation of projects on the ground.
“Technology will enhance the ease of departmental operations while improving quality and monitoring,” he said, adding that the government was working continuously to give fresh momentum to infrastructure development across Chhattisgarh.
PWD Secretary Mukesh Kumar Bansal, Engineer-in-Chief V.K. Bhatpahari and Additional Secretary S.N. Srivastavawere also present at the press conference.
