Liquor shops, bars, hotel-bars, clubs and licensed liquor-serving establishments to remain closed across the state; strict action against illegal sale and transportation
TFP Bureau, Raipur, September 2, 2026: The Chhattisgarh government has declared Friday, September 4, 2026, a Dry Day across the state on the occasion of Shri Krishna Janmashtami. The Commercial Tax (Excise) Department has issued an order directing officials to ensure strict compliance with the prohibition.
Under the order, all retail outlets selling domestic and foreign liquor will remain closed throughout the Dry Day. Restaurant-bars, hotel-bars, clubs, ahatas (attached drinking areas) and other licensed establishments authorised to sell or serve liquor will also remain shut.
Retail outlets selling bhang and bhang-ghota will similarly remain closed on September 4.
No Sale or Serving of Liquor Permitted
The government has made it clear that no hotel, restaurant, club, establishment or individual will be permitted to sell or serve liquor during the Dry Day. The restriction will also apply to non-proprietary clubs, restaurants and star-rated hotels.
Personal storage of liquor and storage of liquor at unlicensed premises will also be prohibited during the period. Any liquor found in violation of the rules will be confiscated and legal action will be initiated against those responsible.
Flying Squads to Crack Down on Illegal Liquor
The Excise Department has directed district offices, along with divisional and state-level flying squads, to step up surveillance to prevent the illegal transportation, storage and sale of liquor.
Inspection teams have been constituted to conduct checks at suspected storage locations and inspect suspicious vehicles. Cases will be registered and action taken under the law against individuals found violating the Dry Day restrictions.
