28,000 shareholder farmers to get 50 kg sugar at ₹30 a kg; Vijay Sharma announces dome structure at factory
TFP Bureau, Raipur, September 13, 2026: The Bhoramdev Cooperative Sugar Factory in Kawardha has recorded the highest sugar recovery rate in the country for the second consecutive year, earning a national-level Efficiency Award for its performance during the 2024-25 and 2025-26 crushing seasons.
Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma on Sunday launched the distribution of 50 kg of sugar at a concessional price of ₹30 a kg to around 28,000 shareholder sugarcane farmers associated with the factory. This is the third consecutive year that the factory has provided sugar to its shareholder farmers at a concessional rate.
Minister for Tribal Development, Agriculture Development and Farmers’ Welfare and Biotechnology Ramvichar Netam joined the programme virtually.
Mr. Sharma said the factory belonged to the farmers and its continued growth depended on their participation and cooperation. He said the high sugar recovery achieved by the factory was not merely an institutional achievement but reflected the quality of sugarcane produced by farmers and their hard work.
“The achievement is the result of farmers’ hard work, efficient factory management and the cooperative spirit,” he said.
The Bhoramdev Cooperative Sugar Factory has been awarded the Efficiency Award by the National Cooperative Sugar Federation, New Delhi, for recording the highest sugar recovery in the country in both 2024-25 and 2025-26.
4.68 lakh metric tonnes crushing target
Mr. Sharma said 4,686 new farmers had joined the factory as shareholders this year, taking the total number of shareholder farmers to around 28,000.
The factory crushed 2.55 lakh metric tonnes of sugarcane during the previous season. The target has now been increased to four lakh metric tonnes for the current season. The factory is also aiming to enter into sugarcane supply contracts with 10,000 farmers.
The Deputy Chief Minister urged farmers to enter into supply agreements and ensure adequate supply of sugarcane to enable the factory to operate smoothly. He said the benefits of strengthening the cooperative would ultimately accrue to the farmers.
He also said the bonus on the support price would be increased for the benefit of sugarcane growers.
Cooperative model benefits farmers
Mr. Sharma said the cooperative model was particularly beneficial to farmers as the profits generated by a cooperative were shared among its members. He urged more farmers to become shareholders and strengthen the factory by supplying sugarcane.
He also announced the construction of a dome structure within the factory premises to provide better facilities and convenience to farmers visiting the facility.
Farmers’ efforts give Kawardha a new identity: Netam
Joining the programme virtually, Mr. Netam said the occasion was significant as sugar was being distributed to farmers ahead of the Teeja festival and Ganesh Chaturthi.
He said the concessional sugar distribution programme had been resumed in the interest of farmers following the direction of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and efforts by Mr. Sharma.
The Minister said the hard work of Kawardha’s sugarcane farmers had given Chhattisgarh a distinct identity at the national level. The quality of sugarcane produced by farmers and the factory’s high recovery rate, he said, were a reflection of their efforts.
The government was working to improve facilities for sugarcane farmers and increase sugarcane production, Mr. Netam said, adding that efforts would also be made to increase the bonus available to farmers.
He said the sugar produced through the farmers’ efforts was reaching their homes during the festive season, bringing added significance to the celebrations.
