‘Our Anganwadi, Our Responsibility’ campaign focuses on meal quality, hygiene and monitoring of children’s growth
TFP Bureau, Raipur, September 23, 2026: The Chhattisgarh Women and Child Development Department has launched a statewide campaign to strengthen community participation in ensuring nutritious and hygienic meals for children at Anganwadi centres.
Being conducted as part of the ninth National Nutrition Month, observed from September 9 to October 8, the campaign carries the themes ‘Children’s meals: everyone’s responsibility’ and ‘Our Anganwadi, Our Responsibility’. The initiative is being implemented by the department in collaboration with Poshan Abhiyaan and UNICEF.
Posters and awareness material displayed at Anganwadi centres are encouraging parents and community members to take an active interest in the meals served to children. They are being urged to monitor food preparation and hygiene, besides sharing feedback on taste, quality and the menu.
The campaign also seeks community support in improving the food served at the centres. In cases where children consume less food, Anganwadi workers are discussing the issue with mothers and making changes in taste and presentation where necessary.
Local and seasonal vegetables, pulses and millets are being included in meals, while cleanliness in kitchens and during food distribution is being emphasised. Children’s weight and growth are also being monitored regularly to help identify changes in their nutritional status at an early stage.
The initiative has also encouraged parents and villagers to ask questions about menus, food quality and hygiene standards and offer suggestions to Anganwadi workers. The department describes such participation as a ‘story of service’, reflecting the role of both frontline workers and the community in improving child nutrition.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Women and Child Development Minister Lakshmi Rajwade flagged off the ‘Suposhan Rath’ on September 12. The vehicle is travelling to villages to spread awareness among mothers, families and communities about balanced diets, hygiene and early childhood development.
Under the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’, the department is also focusing on the timely identification of developmental milestones among children, counselling of parents and facilitating specialist services wherever required.
The department has directed districts to involve Anganwadi management committees, Panchayats, parents and local communities in nutrition-related activities. Events being organised during Nutrition Month include ‘colourful plate’ displays, nutrition fairs, parent meetings, cleanliness drives and awareness programmes.
The department said the ‘Our Anganwadi, Our Responsibility’ campaign seeks to turn community involvement in child nutrition and Anganwadi services into a sustained practice rather than limiting it to the Nutrition Month period.
