TFP Bureau, Raipur, April 17, 2025: In a major step toward strengthening civil security and disaster management in Chhattisgarh, Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai flagged off 20 newly procured, state-of-the-art firefighting vehicles in Raipur today. Speaking at the event held at the Nagar Sena Central Training Institute, the Chief Minister reaffirmed his government’s commitment to modernizing emergency response infrastructure and empowering personnel on the ground.
As part of the same program, Shri Sai also inaugurated a new fire station cum residential complex in Sector-13, Nava Raipur, and a new Senani office at Mana. Deputy Chief Minister Shri Vijay Sharma, along with senior officials and public representatives, were present during the ceremony.
Calling the new additions a “big step towards strengthening emergency services,” Chief Minister Sai said, “These ultra-modern fire vehicles will significantly enhance our capacity to respond swiftly to emergencies, helping save lives and protect property more effectively. The dedication of our fire personnel is truly commendable—they are our real heroes.”
Showcase of Technology and Preparedness
The event also featured a live demonstration of a fire emergency response by the State Disaster Response Force and Fire Relief Team, showcasing the preparedness and agility of personnel. The Chief Minister observed the mock drill closely and appreciated the professionalism and promptness displayed by the teams.
An exhibition of cutting-edge firefighting equipment was also held, where officials demonstrated tools such as Lucas Jacks, Glass Breakers, Air Lifting Bags, Pelican Tower Lights, Diamond Tip cutters, Chain Saws, Fire Gel Blankets, specialized fire suits, and underwater cameras.
Growing Capabilities in Fire Services
Deputy Inspector General of Police Shri Ajat Shatru Bahadur Singh informed that fire services were transferred from urban bodies to the police department in 2017. Currently, the state handles around 8,000 fire-related calls annually, with the number rising to nearly 40 daily during peak summer.
“With the induction of these 20 new fire vehicles, the state fleet has grown to 161,” he said. These new vehicles will be deployed across key districts, including Raigarh, Korba, Kabirdham, Dantewada, Dhamtari, Korea, and Ambikapur.
Singh also highlighted the inauguration of the new fire station cum residential complex in Nava Raipur, constructed by NRDA at a cost of Rs 5.5 crore, to support emergency operations in the region.
Honoring the Brave: Fire Safety Week Observed
In his remarks, Shri Singh noted that Fire Safety Week is being observed across Chhattisgarh from April 14 to 20, in memory of fire service personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty. April 14 is observed as Martyr’s Day in their honor.
Among the dignitaries present were MLA Shri Motilal Sahu, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Shri Manoj Kumar Pingua, Director General of Police Shri Arun Dev Gautam, and Secretary to the Chief Minister Shri Rahul Bhagat.
