Chhattisgarh Achieves Milestone: No School Without a Teacher

TFP Bureau, Raipur, June 14, 2025: In a landmark achievement for Chhattisgarh’s education sector, the state has successfully ensured that no school—from primary to higher secondary—is without a teacher. This significant milestone has been achieved through an extensive teacher rationalisation process initiated under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai.

Thanks to this reform, the number of single-teacher schools in the state has dropped by 80 percent, dramatically transforming the teaching infrastructure across both urban and remote regions. Prior to the initiative, 453 schools were functioning without any teachers, and 5,936 schools had only one teacher. This issue was especially severe in tribal and interior districts such as Sukma, Narayanpur, and Bijapur.

Strategic Rationalisation in Phased Manner
To address this disparity, the state government implemented teacher counselling in three systematic phases—district, divisional, and state levels. The aim was to make equitable use of existing human resources, aligning with the principles of the Right to Education Act and the National Education Policy. Today, every school in the state has the minimum required number of teachers, particularly in high schools where vacancies have now been filled.

Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai commended the initiative, stating, “Our government had taken a pledge that no child in Chhattisgarh should study without a teacher. Through rationalisation, we have laid the foundation of a strong, equitable and just education system. This isn’t just administrative transfer; it’s about restoring fairness in education.”

Focus on Remaining Single-Teacher Primary Schools
Despite this success, 1,207 primary schools across the state still have only one teacher. The government is now prioritising these schools for further improvement through promotion of head teachers, fresh recruitment, and re-posting. Districts with the highest number of such schools include Bastar (283), Bijapur (250), Sukma (186), and Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki (124).

Deployment of additional teachers is being planned for these districts in the coming months, with focused efforts on ensuring every classroom is adequately staffed. Special attention will be given to tribal belts and sensitive zones, where access to education is often hindered by geographical and logistical challenges.

Education as a Tool for Social Justice
This initiative marks a major step toward making education in Chhattisgarh inclusive and accessible to every child. The state government’s approach proves that rationalisation is not merely an administrative reform but a social justice-driven mission—with every child, every village, and every school at its core.

The government’s continued focus on strengthening the education system through infrastructure upgrades, teacher availability, and policy support aims to create a robust and equitable learning environment for all students in the state.
