Lawyer, Wife Among Four Arrested in Cold-Blooded Murder of Client Over ₹30 Lakh Dispute

TFP Bureau, Raipur, June 25, 2025: In a chilling revelation, Raipur Police have arrested four individuals, including a lawyer and his wife, for the brutal murder of a 58-year-old man, Kishore Paikra, over a financial dispute involving ₹30 lakh. The crime, meticulously planned and executed, came to light when an abandoned tin box emitting a foul smell was found near Diparapara Nala behind Wonderland Water Park under the DD Nagar police station area on June 23.

A joint team from the Anti-Crime and Cyber Unit and DD Nagar Police Station recovered a red trolley bag containing the decomposed body of a man cemented inside a tin box. Forensic and fingerprint experts inspected the crime scene, and a murder case under IPC-equivalent BNS sections 103(1), 238A, 61(2), and 3(5) was registered.

Financial Fraud, Murder, and Disposal Plot

The investigation revealed that lawyer Ankit Upadhyay, 31, and his wife Shivani Sharma, 24, both residents of Satyam Vihar Colony, murdered Kishore Paikra after misappropriating ₹30 lakh received from the sale of Paikra’s property. Paikra was repeatedly pressuring the accused to return his money, which allegedly led to the murder.

On June 21, Ankit lured Paikra to a rented house in Indraprastha Colony under the pretext of house cleaning. There, he and his wife strangled Paikra and slit his throat. They left the body overnight, later returning with a tin box, cement, and perfume to conceal the crime. They placed the body in a trolley bag, sealed it in the tin box, poured cement over it, and dumped it at a deserted location.

Arrest at Delhi Airport

With help from informers, CCTV footage, and cyber forensics, police traced the accused couple and their two accomplices—Vinay Yadav (23) and Suryakant Yadav (21). The couple had fled to Delhi on a flight on June 23. Based on timely coordination between Raipur and Delhi Police, they were arrested upon landing at Indira Gandhi International Airport.

Confession and Timeline of Crime

Ankit Upadhyay, who also dealt in real estate, admitted to manipulating the victim with false legal assurances. After selling Paikra’s property for ₹30 lakh and using the funds for personal purposes, he plotted the murder with his wife. The murder was committed in a pre-rented room, and the disposal involved help from the Yadav duo.

Ankit created a fake Aadhaar card to buy an Alto car (CG 04 B 7744), used for disposing of the body. The tin box was purchased from Golbazar’s Shabbir Steel Trunk Factory, and cement was procured locally.

Seized Evidence and Police Action

Police seized the Alto car, two two-wheelers (including electric vehicles), five mobile phones, and other evidence. The arrest and investigation were led by a large team under the direction of IG Raipur Range Amresh Mishra and SSP Dr. Lal Umed Singh. A cash reward was announced for the police team for their swift and effective action.

Victim’s Background and Motive

The deceased, Kishore Paikra of Handipara, had earlier sold a property in Azad Chowk for ₹50 lakh but never handed over possession. He entrusted Ankit Upadhyay to resolve the dispute legally. Instead, Ankit fraudulently sold another of Paikra’s properties and pocketed the proceeds, leading to the fatal fallout.

As investigations continue, police say the case stands as a grim reminder of financial fraud escalating into heinous crime, underscoring the importance of vigilance and timely legal recourse.
