Cooperative-led mobility platform records 44.27 lakh customers and 11,106 daily rides; Delhi-NCR accounts for more than half of the total daily bookings
TFP Bureau, New Delhi, August 12, 2026: Bharat Taxi, a cooperative-led digital mobility platform operated by Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited (STCL), has been officially rolled out in Delhi-NCR, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Rajasthan, with the service being expanded across the country in a phased manner.
According to information provided by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, Bharat Taxi had registered 8.48 lakh drivers, known as ‘Sarathis’, and 44.27 lakh customers as of August 4, 2026. The platform was facilitating 11,106 rides per day and had enabled cumulative earnings of ₹83.70 crore for its drivers.
The rollout involves registration and onboarding of drivers, customer enrolment, training programmes and expansion into identified cities and states. Further expansion will depend on operational preparedness, availability of drivers, completion of statutory requirements and coordination with state governments, cooperative institutions and other stakeholders.
Delhi-NCR leads Bharat Taxi operations
Delhi-NCR recorded the highest average daily rides at 5,574, followed by Gujarat with 3,817. Pune recorded 632 daily rides, while Jaipur registered 372.
The other cities covered in the current operational network include Lucknow with 324 daily rides, Chandigarh with 190 and Mumbai with 197. Together, these locations account for the platform’s total of 11,106 average daily rides.
Bharat Taxi is operated by Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited, a multi-state cooperative society, under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002. The cooperative-based model is intended to provide an institutional framework for driver participation, welfare and earnings.
Expansion to depend on preparedness
The government said Bharat Taxi’s expansion to additional cities and states would be undertaken according to operational requirements and necessary approvals. Factors including driver availability, statutory compliance and coordination with respective state governments will determine the pace of expansion.
The platform’s implementation is being carried out in phases, with emphasis on driver training, customer onboarding and strengthening operations before services are expanded to new locations.
Bharat Taxi and Yatri Sathi operate under different frameworks
The government also clarified that Bharat Taxi and Yatri Sathi are separate mobility platforms operating under different institutional arrangements.
While Bharat Taxi is a cooperative-based platform operated by STCL, Yatri Sathi has been developed and operated by the Department of Information Technology and Electronics (DITE), Government of West Bengal.
However, the two platforms have entered into a collaboration. On July 19, 2026, STCL signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the West Bengal Government for cooperation with Yatri Sathi. Under the agreement, Bharat Taxi will support areas including driver enrolment, cooperative membership, driver welfare and public outreach.
The government said the phased rollout of Bharat Taxi is aimed at building a wider cooperative-based mobility ecosystem while creating opportunities for drivers to participate in and benefit from the platform.
