Teeja Milan in Raipur Showcases Chhattisgarh’s Folk Culture and Women’s Role in Society

TFP Bureau, Raipur, September 3, 2025 : Celebrating the vibrant spirit of Chhattisgarh’s cultural heritage, a grand Teeja Milan was organised today at the residence of Revenue Minister Tank Ram Verma in Raipur. The festive occasion, held in the months of Sawan and Bhadon which are considered auspicious in the state, brought alive the colours of Chhattisgarhi folk music, dance, cuisine, and traditional rituals. Women, adorned in bright ethnic attire, performed melodious songs and dances, creating an atmosphere filled with joy and cultural pride.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, addressing the gathering, described Teeja as a festival deeply rooted in devotion and family values. He said women observe fasts for the prosperity of their households and the long lives of their husbands, making the festival one of faith and sacrifice. “Our folk traditions are the strongest medium to bind society together. Festivals like Teeja and Kajli Ekadashi not only have religious importance but also carry a strong message of fraternity and social unity. They embody our cultural identity,” the CM said. He reaffirmed that the guiding spirit for Chhattisgarh’s progress remains Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas.

Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Dr. Raman Singh, praised the women of Chhattisgarh for their multifaceted contributions. “Women here are not just nurturing families and preserving traditions; they are excelling in politics, education, social service and every other field. They are the custodians of culture while also bringing glory to the state through their achievements,” he said.

Revenue Minister Tank Ram Verma, the host of the Teeja Milan, highlighted the emotional significance of the festival for women. He said Teeja revives cherished memories of maternal homes, while also representing endurance, devotion and cultural richness. “Today’s celebration was not just a festive gathering, but a reflection of our traditions blending with modern aspirations,” he remarked.

The celebration featured traditional delicacies, folk dances, and songs that echoed the essence of Chhattisgarh’s rustic charm. Women exchanged greetings, prayed for family well-being, and rejoiced in a collective sense of cultural pride.

The programme was graced by several senior ministers and public representatives including Tribal Development and Agriculture Minister Ram Vichar Netam, Food and Consumer Protection Minister Dayal Das Baghel, Forest and Cooperation Minister Kedar Kashyap, Commerce and Industry Minister Lakhan Lal Devangan, Public Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal, Women and Child Development Minister Laxmi Rajwade, School Education Minister Gajendra Yadav, and Tourism Minister Rajesh Agrawal. MPs Brijmohan Agrawal, Rup Kumari Choudhary, Kamlesh Jangde, and MLAs Anuj Sharma, Sunil Soni, and Purandar Mishra also participated.
