TFP Bureau, New Delhi, November 7,2025: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has restored normal operations of the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS) at Indira Gandhi International Airport after resolving a technical issue that briefly disrupted automated processing of flight plan messages beginning late on November 6.
The AMSS, a crucial IP-based system that facilitates the transmission and management of flight plans between airlines and Air Traffic Control (ATC), encountered an unexpected malfunction, prompting the Ministry of Civil Aviation to initiate immediate corrective action.
Upon detection of the issue, Civil Aviation Secretary Samir Kumar Sinha convened an urgent review meeting with AAI Chairman Vipin Kumar, Member (Air Navigation Services) M. Suresh, and senior officials. The top-level team issued swift instructions to diagnose and resolve the problem, activating an emergency response mechanism.
While the system error temporarily hindered automated data processing, AAI moved quickly to ensure uninterrupted ATC operations. Additional manpower was deployed on-site to manually process flight plans, enabling safe and continuous management of aircraft movements. The Original Equipment Manufacturer was simultaneously engaged to assist in troubleshooting efforts.
A specialised technical team comprising engineers from the Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL) and AAI has remained stationed at the airport since the incident, monitoring the restored system to ensure stability and prevent further disruptions.
AAI confirmed that the AMSS has now returned to normal function. Minor delays may continue briefly as the system clears backlogged data, but officials said full stabilisation is expected soon.
In a statement, the AAI expressed regret for the inconvenience faced by airlines and passengers, reiterating its commitment to maintaining robust, reliable, and safe air traffic management across India’s aviation network.
