TFP Bureau, Raipur, December 12, 2025: Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai has said that the declaration of Kopra Reservoir in Bilaspur district as Chhattisgarh’s first Ramsar Site marks a “moment of immense pride and honour” for the state. The international recognition, he noted, highlights the region’s rich biodiversity, thriving bird habitats, and sustained commitment to water conservation.
The Chief Minister congratulated the State Wetland Authority, environmental experts, researchers, and local communities for their coordinated efforts that enabled Kopra Reservoir to meet global standards. He emphasized that the achievement reflects the state’s growing prominence in ecological protection and scientific wetland management.
Shri Sai said the Ramsar status aligns closely with the goals of Chhattisgarh Anjor Vision 2047, which aims to secure Ramsar recognition for 20 wetlands by 2030. The designation, he added, is not only a conservation milestone but also a motivating step toward strengthening the state’s long-term environmental policies and ecological resilience.
The recognition is expected to boost eco-tourism in Bilaspur district, creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for local communities. The Chief Minister said that increased public engagement with the wetland will encourage greater awareness about environmental protection and support the preservation of natural resources for future generations.
Appealing to the people of Chhattisgarh, he urged citizens to take an active role in safeguarding wetlands and protecting the state’s natural heritage. Conservation, he said, is not solely the government’s responsibility but a “collective duty,” and greater community participation will help Chhattisgarh advance toward a future built on sustainable development and ecological balance.
