TFP Bureau, Raipur, January 1, 2026: Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai has said that India’s development momentum has gained unprecedented speed under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, with several infrastructure and energy projects that remained stalled for decades now being completed in a time-bound and result-oriented manner. He said the PRAGATI (Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation) platform has emerged as a powerful instrument of accountable and decisive governance, delivering visible outcomes on the ground.
Highlighting the impact of PRAGATI in Chhattisgarh, the Chief Minister said the platform has played a crucial role in accelerating key projects of national and state importance. “The PRAGATI mechanism ensures constant monitoring, inter-departmental coordination and swift resolution of bottlenecks, which has transformed the work culture of governance,” he said.
Chief Minister Sai noted that the modernisation and expansion of the Bhilai Steel Plant stands as a prime example of PRAGATI’s effectiveness. Approved as early as 2007, the project gained fresh momentum through regular reviews at the highest level. Its modernisation has significantly enhanced rail and steel production capacity, strengthened India’s industrial self-reliance, and created employment opportunities for thousands of youth in Chhattisgarh. The expansion has also boosted ancillary industries and reinforced the state’s status as a major steel production hub.
Similarly, the 1,600 MW NTPC Lara Super Thermal Power Project in Raigarh district, approved in 2009, witnessed accelerated progress under the PRAGATI framework. Through high-level monitoring and timely decision-making, the project overcame long-standing hurdles and has now emerged as a cornerstone of national energy security. The project supplies uninterrupted power not only to Chhattisgarh but also to six other states, supporting industrial growth, agricultural activities and overall economic stability.
The Chief Minister said that these projects demonstrate how PRAGATI has introduced a robust system of continuous review, clear timelines and fixed accountability. “This new governance model, focused on speed, scale and outcomes, is paving the way towards the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat @2047’,” he added.
It is noteworthy that the recently held 50th meeting of the PRAGATI platform, chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has provided renewed impetus to development efforts across the country, including in Chhattisgarh. PRAGATI, an ICT-based governance platform, was designed to promote proactive administration and ensure time-bound implementation of projects by bringing together the Centre and states on a single monitoring framework.
Over the past decade, projects worth more than ₹85 lakh crore across sectors such as infrastructure, power, railways, roads, coal and industry have gained momentum through PRAGATI. Several strategically important projects from Chhattisgarh have also benefited from this initiative.
During the milestone 50th PRAGATI meeting, special emphasis was placed on expediting the modernisation of the Bhilai Steel Plant and ensuring steady progress of the Lara Super Thermal Power Project. Regular reviews under PRAGATI helped streamline coordination among multiple agencies, remove procedural delays and ensure adherence to timelines.
Chief Minister Sai said the successful execution of these projects has generated wide-ranging benefits for Chhattisgarh, including increased industrial investment, enhanced power availability, large-scale employment generation and growth of allied economic activities. He said the Lara project, in particular, has reinforced Chhattisgarh’s identity as the “Power Hub of India,” contributing significantly to both state and national grids.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during the PRAGATI meeting, underlined that the platform has strengthened cooperative federalism by fostering trust, coordination and shared responsibility between the Centre and states. The Chief Minister echoed this view, stating that PRAGATI has enabled Chhattisgarh to actively contribute to national development goals while accelerating its own growth journey.
Describing PRAGATI as a model of solution-oriented governance, Chief Minister Sai expressed confidence that with sustained monitoring and accountability, Chhattisgarh will continue to play a decisive role in achieving the national objective of a developed India by 2047.
