Over 1.5 lakh passengers travelled from Gulf to India since February 28; airlines adjusting operations to ensure safety
TFP Bureau, New Delhi, March 13, 2026: The Ministry of Civil Aviation is closely monitoring the evolving situation in West Asia and its impact on air travel between India and countries in the region, officials said on Thursday.
According to the ministry, Indian airlines have begun resuming flight operations to and from Riyadh in Saudi Arabia from March 12 after a temporary disruption in services.
On the first day of resumed operations, four flights were scheduled to operate between India and Riyadh. These include three services to Mumbai operated by Air India and IndiGo, and one flight to Calicut operated by Air India Express.
Officials said the resumption of these flights has helped restore key air connectivity between India and Riyadh, which is an important travel route for passengers including Indian expatriates and business travellers.
Large passenger movement from Gulf
The ministry said that during the period from February 28 to March 11, a total of 1,50,457 passengers travelled from various Gulf countries to India.
Airlines have continued to operate services while making operational adjustments in response to the evolving regional situation to ensure passenger safety and smooth flight operations.
On March 12 alone, Indian carriers scheduled 57 inbound flights from different cities in West Asia. These include flights from Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Fujairah, Jeddah, Muscat, Ras Al Khaimah, Riyadh and Sharjah.
Officials noted that these services are subject to operational feasibility and prevailing conditions in the region.
Monitoring fares and coordination with airlines
The Ministry of Civil Aviation said it is maintaining close coordination with airlines and other stakeholders to ensure smooth passenger movement and avoid disruptions.
Authorities are also keeping a close watch on airfares to ensure ticket prices remain reasonable and to prevent any undue surge in fares during the current situation.
Passengers advised to stay updated
The ministry advised passengers travelling between India and West Asian countries to remain in contact with their respective airlines for the latest updates on flight schedules and travel arrangements.
Officials said the situation is being reviewed continuously and further updates will be issued as required to keep travellers informed.
