Pahadi Korwa Student Secures Job, Continues Higher Education in Surguja

Employment Support Helps Tribal Youth Sham Kumari Pursue B.Sc. While Strengthening Family’s Financial Stability

TFP Bureau, Raipur, April 26,2026: A young woman from the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) community in Chhattisgarh has emerged as an inspiring example of determination and empowerment after securing employment while continuing her higher education. Sham Kumari, a member of the Pahadi Korwa community, has been appointed as a ward assistant at a health facility in Surguja district, enabling her to pursue her studies and support her family at the same time.

The initiative has been undertaken under the guidance of Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and implemented by the district administration with the objective of bringing youth from vulnerable tribal communities into the mainstream of education and employment.

Job at Community Health Centre

Sham Kumari, a resident of Chirmunda village in the Lundra development block of Surguja district, is currently in the final year of her Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree. Recognising her commitment to education and the need for economic independence, the district administration facilitated her appointment as a “Ward Aya” at the Urban Community Health Center, Nawapara.

The employment opportunity has provided her with a steady source of income, allowing her to continue her academic journey without the financial pressures that previously threatened to halt her education.

Education Becomes Self-Sustained

Expressing her happiness over the opportunity, Sham Kumari said that pursuing higher education had once seemed extremely difficult due to financial constraints. With the new job, however, she can now meet her educational expenses independently while also contributing to her family’s livelihood.

“I am very happy to receive this employment opportunity. Now I can pay for my further studies myself and also support my family financially,” she said.

Her story highlights how targeted government interventions can transform the lives of young people from remote tribal communities by providing them both educational and economic opportunities.

Government Initiative for Tribal Youth

Officials said the state government has been making consistent efforts to ensure that young people from Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups receive access to education, employment and skill development opportunities.

Under a special initiative funded by the District Mineral Foundation, the Surguja district administration has provided employment to educated youth from the Pahadi Korwa community in the health sector. As part of the programme, around 30 young men and women have been appointed as ward boys and ward ayas in different healthcare facilities across the district.

The initiative aims to empower members of the tribal community by offering stable employment opportunities while simultaneously strengthening the healthcare workforce in rural and semi-urban areas.

Inspiration for Other Tribal Students

Local officials say Sham Kumari’s achievement represents more than just personal success. It sends a powerful message to other students from the Pahadi Korwa community that education and perseverance can open new doors, especially when supported by government programmes.

Her journey—from a tribal village student facing financial challenges to a working professional continuing her higher education—has become a source of motivation for many young people in the region.

Community members and administrators alike hope that more students from the Pahadi Korwa community will follow a similar path, using education and employment opportunities to build a brighter future for themselves and their families.
