Vedanta Skill School provides free industry-oriented training, helping rural and tribal youth secure jobs and become self-reliant
TFP Bureau, Korba, July 2,2026: Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO) has empowered more than 13,000 rural and tribal youths through its Vedanta Skill School initiative, equipping them with industry-relevant skills and creating pathways to employment and self-employment.
The initiative aims to address the growing demand for skilled manpower in the industrial sector by offering free residential vocational training aligned with the standards of the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC). The skill centres operate in Korba, Surguja and Kawardha districts, focusing on preparing youth for careers across multiple industries.
The training programmes cover seven major trades—welder, fitter, hospitality, sewing machine operator, solar PV technician, mobile repairing and electrician. During the 2026 financial year alone, 1,202 youths completed the programme and were linked to employment and entrepreneurship opportunities.
Graduates of the Vedanta Skill School have secured jobs with leading companies, including Foxconn, Welspun, Crompton Greaves, Adani, Volvo Eicher, Barbeque Nation and Tata Mobile Manufacturing, reflecting the programme’s strong industry linkage.
Among the beneficiaries is Nisha Yadav, who now works as an operator at Tata Electronics in Bengaluru. She credited the training with helping her overcome social barriers, build confidence and become financially independent while supporting her family and her mother’s medical treatment.
Another beneficiary, Vandana Nirala, is employed as a Captain in the Food and Beverage department at Hotel Krishnai in Dhule, Maharashtra. She said the programme equipped her with technical expertise, communication skills and leadership qualities that enabled her career progression while helping her support her family and contribute to building a new home.
Vinod Kumhar of Sakti district chose entrepreneurship after completing the mobile repairing course. He established his own venture, “Vinod Mobile Repairing,” and now earns a sustainable livelihood while generating employment opportunities. He said the programme transformed him from a job seeker into a job creator.
Beyond technical instruction, Vedanta Skill School places strong emphasis on personality development through AI-based learning modules, industrial visits, interactions with industry experts, safety training, employee mentorship and alumni engagement. These initiatives are designed to strengthen leadership abilities, professional competence and self-confidence among participants.
BALCO said skill development remains a key pillar of its community development strategy, with a focus on creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for rural youth and contributing to the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat through inclusive and industry-driven workforce development.
