‘She-SOC’ marks a milestone in industrial security, with women managing surveillance, emergency response and critical decision-making round the clock
TFP Bureau, Korba, July 23,2026: Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO) has taken a significant step towards promoting gender diversity and women’s leadership by transforming its Central Security Operation Center (CSOC) into a women-led facility, named “She-SOC” (Security Harmony and Excellence).
The initiative places women at the forefront of BALCO’s round-the-clock industrial security operations, highlighting the company’s commitment to creating an inclusive workplace where leadership is driven by capability, technical expertise and professionalism.
Operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the She-SOC serves as the central command centre for BALCO’s security infrastructure. The all-women team is responsible for monitoring hundreds of CCTV cameras across the plant, analysing security alerts, coordinating emergency responses, issuing operational instructions to security personnel and supporting critical decision-making during emergencies.
Company officials said the initiative reflects a shift in the traditional perception of industrial security, where competence, vigilance, technological proficiency and quick decision-making are increasingly valued over physical strength.
With industrial security becoming more technology-driven, qualities such as attention to detail, analytical thinking, effective communication and situational awareness have become essential. BALCO believes that greater participation of women has strengthened these aspects, contributing to a more efficient and balanced security system.
Varsha Dwivedi, In-charge of She-SOC, said the organisation’s trust in women professionals has strengthened her confidence and leadership abilities. She credited regular training, exposure to advanced security technologies and hands-on experience in handling challenging situations for enhancing her decision-making skills.
She said BALCO’s commitment to women’s empowerment has encouraged her to take on greater responsibilities and demonstrated that women are fully capable of leading critical functions such as industrial security.
Rekha Srivastava, another member of the She-SOC team, said the initiative challenges conventional perceptions about women’s role in the security sector. She noted that vigilance, discipline, integrity, communication skills and timely decision-making are the true pillars of effective security management, rather than physical strength alone.
Pooja Tandon said the technology-driven environment of the Security Operations Centre presents new challenges every day, offering valuable learning opportunities. She added that timely decisions taken during emergencies often play a crucial role in preventing major incidents, making the work both meaningful and professionally rewarding.
