TFP Bureau, Korba, April 17, 2025 – In a significant step towards fostering workplace inclusivity, Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO), a unit of Vedanta Aluminium, has unveiled a progressive education assistance policy tailored for its transgender employees. The initiative provides financial support of up to INR 1 lakh to those pursuing professional education, aiming to close educational gaps and empower career advancement.
The policy applies to all transgender employees who have completed at least 18 months of service at BALCO. With this move, the company underscores its belief in inclusion through learning, aiming to equip individuals with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive both professionally and personally.
“This education policy is a step forward in building a future where everyone, regardless of gender identity, has equal opportunities to learn, grow, and lead,” said Mr. Rajesh Kumar, CEO and Director of BALCO. “Inclusion is not just a policy for us—it is a core value.”
The education initiative is part of BALCO’s broader Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) charter. The company has already instituted a gender reaffirmation policy offering paid leave and financial support for gender reassignment procedures. Additional measures include housing assistance for transgender employees, regular sensitization workshops, and community engagement programs to foster awareness and acceptance across the organization.
Suman, a transgender employee working in the company’s security division, shared how BALCO’s inclusive environment has transformed her life. “It was here that I found the courage to embrace my identity,” she said. “Now, with this new education policy, I feel inspired to aim higher—not just for myself, but for others like me.”
With these initiatives, BALCO continues to set benchmarks in workplace inclusivity by integrating transgender professionals into core roles and championing equal opportunity across all levels.
