Election Commission of India Strengthens Grassroots Election Workforce with Comprehensive Training Programme

TFP Bureau,Raipur, 9 April 2025: The Election Commission of India has launched a significant capacity-building initiative with the commencement of a two-day national training programme at the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM). The programme, which began today, is designed for 217 Booth Level Officers (BLOs), 2 District Election Officers (DEOs), and 12 Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) from West Bengal. This training is a key part of the Commission’s ongoing effort to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of grassroots election officials, as outlined during the CEO Conference at IIIDEM on 4 March.

Strengthening Media Coordination in Electoral Processes

In addition to the grassroots training, a one-day orientation programme for Media Nodal Officers, Social Media Nodal Officers, and District Public Relations Officers (PROs) concluded today at IIIDEM, New Delhi. The goal of the session was to improve communication strategies among election officials in light of the evolving media landscape.

Officials from 28 States and 8 Union Territories participated in the programme, which focused on developing a proactive approach to information dissemination, combating misinformation, and enhancing voter awareness across various media platforms. All activities were aligned with the legal framework, including the Representation of the People Acts 1950 and 1951, the Registration of Electors Rules 1960, and other instructions from the Commission.

Media’s Crucial Role in Voter Engagement and Electoral Integrity

Chief Election Commissioner Shri Gyanesh Kumar, in his address, emphasized the crucial role of the media in the electoral process. He stressed the need for media officials to ensure timely, factual, and transparent communication to maintain voter trust in elections, especially in an age dominated by digital information. He also urged media professionals to combat false narratives and proactively empower voters with accurate information.
